Branch Program Meeting – Global Health Equity – March 14

Women are leading the Global Health Equity charge when it comes to advancing health equity, yet factors are inhibiting our progress. We also know that on a global scale both women’s health and financial wellness vary widely further causing inequities.

Mary Stutts, CEO of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association will speak to the reasons and offer solutions that will drive meaningful change, and pave the way forward for improved financial well-being and enhanced health outcomes for women globally. Branch Program Meeting – ERA – February 17

Georgia Fuller is a women’s rights activist who was heavily involved in the political struggle for the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1980s. She was a member of the Congressional Union, a feminist group in the 1980s, and was co-founder of the Arlington, Virginia chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). Join us to hear her speak on ERA history and her personal civil disobedience experience in that area on Saturday, February 17, 10:00 A.M. 

Branch Program Meeting – Financial Security – January 18

In compliance with our mission objective that we help women achieve financial security, we present, “What every woman should know.” Our speakers are Michele Massey of Merrill Lynch, and Sylvia Auton, Author of “Grandma Sylvia’s Guide to the Stock Market.” Both have information that will energize and educate our Branch members.

On December 6, at Tea With Mrs. B., Branch members enjoyed teas, sweets and savories, discussions with Mary Todd Lincoln, the Surprise Visitor, and histories of teas and other delectable enlightenment by Mrs. B.

Branch Program Tour – October 25

A tour of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery is planned for Wednesday, October 25, starting at 1:00 P.M. Springfield-Annandale AAUW member, Sandra Lawrence, will act as guide. Tour begins in the lobby by the gift shop and typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour. After a walk through the Education Center, the tour will end on the rooftop terrace which is accessible either via stairs or elevator. More on this in October’s newsletter.

 

Northern District Meeting – September 23

Attend the Northern District Meeting of AAUW on Saturday, September 23, at the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library, 5005 Duke Street, Alexandria, 10:30 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. The focus of the meeting is AAUW’s Public Policy and Advocacy Agenda.

Featured speakers are Meghan Kissell, AAUW Senior Director, Policy and Member Advocacy, and Janine Greenwood, AAUW-VA Co-Vice President for Public Policy.

 

Branch Program Meeting – September 9

Our programs for this fall have been coming together nicely. We have a variety of topics, speakers, and events that will enhance our AAUW mission for equity and inclusion and outreach to community through affiliation with the Fairfax County Library System at Pohick Regional Library.

The first Program for the Membership Year is Saturday, September 9, at Pohick Regional Library, 6450 Sydenstricker Road, Burke, 3:00 – 4:30 P.M. Featured speaker, Shari Henri, Director of Democracy and Community Impact, Urban Library Council, will address:          “Speaking Out to Save Free Speech”
